The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre has announced that the 11th annual Del Close Marathon will run from August 14-16, with over 150 shows playing across three venues.
The event was created in celebration of the late Del Close, a pioneer in the art of improvisation and an inspiration to generations of students:
“Del Close was the driving force behind improvisational comedy in Chicago for over 30 years influencing Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Mike Myers, John Belushi, Chris Farley and the Upright Citizens Brigade to name a few. After Del’s passing in 1999, the UCB started the Del Close Marathon to celebrate their mentor and keep alive his name and teachings for future generations.”

DEL CLOSE
DCM is currently accepting submissions for shows. In particular they’re interested in out-of-town groups submitting late-night shows. The submission deadline is May 4th.

It’s always rough when you submit to perform in a festival and are subsequently rejected. Many times it has nothing to do with the quality of your performance so much as the size, location or performer crossover that makes up your ensemble. Festival producers are always faced with making really difficult decisions (unfortunately I know this first hand quite) because they often don’t have enough slots for a lot of the great submissions they get.

REJECTION SUCKS
If you’ve found yourself getting the short end of the roster recently, Chemically Imbalanced Comedy is stepping up once again this June with Snubfest ’09. The Chicago-based festival prides itself on presenting the best of those who’ve been snubbed. It doesn’t matter if your poison is improv, sketch, standup, musical comedy or even a solo act… if you’ve been shot down since June 1st of last year, then they’d like to hear from you by April 24th.
The event even boasts the Last Snob Standing contest where the winner(s) will score performance slot(s) in other major festivals.

THAT'S BETTER
