Tonight: Sketchfest Comedy Competition at Helium

ANIMOSITY PIERRE, the organizers of the PHILLY SKETCHFEST, host a sketch comedy competition tonight at Helium Comedy Club. Up and coming sketch groups each compete to earn a performance slot in PSF2010. On the bill for tonight:

Young Folks Comedy
Bare Hug
Brendan and Aaron
Second Place Champions
Chris Jones (Schwarzkopf Entertainment)

Each group gets six minutes to wow the audience and the judges. The judges include Rob Baniewicz (of Meg & Rob), Alli Soowal (of Real Housewives & PHIF producer) and PSF producer Ben Maher.

Tickets are $12 (w/ two item minimum) and proceeds benefit PSF2010. Also, performers from last year’s Sketchfest get a half price discount.

Duos Part Dos Sketchfest Fundraiser at Helium

Wednesday evening, the PHILLY SKETCHFEST presents the second annual installment its fundraiser, DUOS PART DOS at Helium Comedy Club. The show will feature sketches from ANIMOSITY PIERRE, music from EMILY & MICAH and modern vaudeville from THE CHRIS & PAUL SHOW.

Hosted by CAROLYN BUSA, proceeds from the evening will benefit the 2010 Philly Sketchfest, a member of the newly minted PHILADELPHIA COMEDY COLLECTIVE and part of COMEDY MONTH, taking place this November. Tickets are $12-$17 plus a two item minimum.

Update on Phillys Phunniest

The preliminary round of Philly’s Phunniest competition resumed this past weekend at Helium after a holiday hiatus the week prior. Of the comics performing this past week, Roger Weaver, Pat House, Brendan Kennedy and Doogie Horner move on to round two. Congratulations!

Preliminaries continue this Sunday, where over a dozen comics look to snag a spot moving forward, with Sydney Gantt, Chris Cotton and Billy Bob Thompson among them.

Phillys Phunniest Continues at Helium this Sunday

This weekend HELIUM continues in its quest to find this years PHILLY’S PHUNNIEST. With two weeks already under its belt, there’s already been more talent than you can shake a stick at, and there’s lots more to look forward to. Philadelphia Comedy Allstars Show tonight at Helium

Tonight Helium presents a stellar lineup of local standups. Hosted by AARON HERTZOG, Philadelphia’s Comedy Allstars Show will feature STEVE GERBEN (Phillys Phunniest Winner 2007), ANTON SHUFORD (Phillys Phunniest Winner 2009) and CHIP CHANTRY (Phillys Phunniest Finalist).

If you were quick enough (like I was), Helium held a contest on Facebook this past Monday for free tickets. If not, $10 is but a paltry fee to take in some of Philly’s best and brightest.

Comedy contest at Helium this Saturday

This Saturday afternoon, Helium will be holding a stand up competition for past students of BRAD TRACKMAN. In addition to getting to further hone their craft on stage, the lucky winner will get to host at the club for a week. Runners up will get featured spots at Helium’s open mic Tuesdays.

Some up and coming comedians (one being TOMMY HIGHLAND, host of PJI’s Open Mic Sandwich) have a chance to enjoy a little spotlight, and even bigger opportunities down the road. Head on out an support them!
