Tonight: Sketchfest Comedy Competition at Helium

ANIMOSITY PIERRE, the organizers of the PHILLY SKETCHFEST, host a sketch comedy competition tonight at Helium Comedy Club. Up and coming sketch groups each compete to earn a performance slot in PSF2010. On the bill for tonight:

Camp Woods
Young Folks Comedy
Bare Hug
Brendan and Aaron
Second Place Champions
Chris Jones (Schwarzkopf Entertainment)

Each group gets six minutes to wow the audience and the judges. The judges include Rob Baniewicz (of Meg & Rob), Alli Soowal (of Real Housewives & PHIF producer) and PSF producer Ben Maher.

Tickets are $12 (w/ two item minimum) and proceeds benefit PSF2010. Also, performers from last year’s Sketchfest get a half price discount.

A few weeks back, HELIUM hosted a competition to determine the final spot(s) for the PHILLY SKETCHFEST which kicks off tonight. Out of the ten groups that performed, two ended up making the cut… BAD CREATIONS and DEPENDABLE FELONS. PHIT nabs Kevin Allison to helm sketch workshops

You probably already heard the exciting news that the Philly Improv Theater will be bringing in The State’s Kevin Allison next week to perform his one man show, F***Up. Well in addition to his show of character sketches, he’ll also be bringing his experience to the classroom, as he offers a sketch workshops and a master class next weekend:

THE JOY OF SKETCH
An introduction to sketch comedy with Kevin Allison of MTV’s The State – this class will involve analysis of classic sketches. Some will be show on video, others will be performed by students in the class. Intermixed with the examination of classic sketches the instructor will provide general advice and tips for your own sketch writing, and lead the class in a variety of writing exercises. Students need not prepare anything in advance.

This class will focus on workshopping of sketches brought by the students. The class will discuss each sketch brought after the writer casts it and students perform. You will receive personal feedback from Kevin Allison, along with other students in the workshop.
